Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan focus on economic cooperation in agriculture, energy and textiles

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a phone conversation with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to discuss ways to further strengthen the Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations of friendship, strategic partnership, and alliance, Olaylar reports, citing the Uzbek president's office.

The leaders focused on the practical implementation of agreements made during the state visit of President Aliyev to Uzbekistan in August of the previous year. They expressed satisfaction with the productive work carried out under the "Year of Economic Cooperation," which has already seen a 20 percent increase in trade turnover since the beginning of the year. Active projects are currently underway in various sectors, including machine building, textiles, electronics, energy, agriculture, tourism, and more.

An intensive program of cultural and humanitarian exchanges is also being jointly implemented to enhance bilateral ties. The leaders emphasized the importance of thorough preparations for upcoming summits, including the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, regional forums, rector meetings, and cultural events.

Additionally, Mirziyoyev and Aliyev exchanged views on regional issues and reviewed the schedule of upcoming multilateral events, including those under the framework of the Organization of Turkic States.

Meanwhile, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan amounted to over $252 million in 2024. Data obtained from the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan shows that this figure represents a 41 percent increase compared to the previous year, when trade turnover was valued at $178.7 million.
